Whether you’re camping on Vlieland, backpacking in Bali or Colombia, or partying in Chersonisos, the goal is the same: to relax and enjoy. The atmosphere is always pleasant because everyone is on vacation.
During your vacation, you might go out or have a Tinder date, which could lead to a wild night with a local or a tourist from another country. This may result in unprotected sex if you don’t have condoms with you. Unprotected sex can always lead to an STI, especially in countries where certain STIs are more prevalent than in the Netherlands. To clarify the risks, we have listed the most common STIs by continent below:
STIs most common in Europe:
- Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.
STIs most common in Africa:
- HIV is more prevalent, along with Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Hepatitis B.
STIs most common in Asia:
- In South and Southeast Asia, HIV and Hepatitis B are most common.
STIs most common in South America:
- Syphilis, HIV, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia.
STIs most common in the Caribbean:
- Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and HIV.
At The Tester, it is currently not possible to test for Hepatitis B, but all other mentioned STIs can be tested. If you have had unprotected sex recently in one of the listed areas abroad, we recommend ordering a test through our webshop.
