This allergy test uses antibodies to detect various allergens. Using a whole blood sample, the immunochromatographic rapid test for home use detects elevated levels of IgE antibodies. If the blood sample contains IgE antibodies against these allergens, they bind to the allergens and this leads to a visible red line on the test cassette through colloidal gold-labeled anti-IgE antibodies.
The reliability of this allergy self-test has been established based on correctly positive or negative results after a clinical trial with 265 participants. The reliability of this test is higher than 97%, comparable to laboratory tests. It is not necessary to stop medication during the test.
An allergy is an extreme defense reaction to allergens. More and more people suffer from allergies. An allergy is a reaction of the immune system to foreign substances in the body, or allergens. The most well-known allergens come from house dust, dog or cat hair, tree or grass pollen, and certain foods.
