What does the cholesterol self-test do?
This cholesterol self-test allows you to reliably estimate whether your total cholesterol level is within normal limits. Cholesterol is found throughout the body, with most of it produced in the liver and a small portion coming directly from the diet. Cholesterol is mainly used in the construction of cell membranes, the formation of bile salts, and in the protection of the skin. The normal range for total cholesterol in the blood is less than or equal to 200 mg/dL. Elevated cholesterol levels are a risk factor for arteriosclerosis, stroke, and heart attack.
Who is the cholesterol self-test for?
Anyone can do this cholesterol self-test, but it is particularly important for people with a risk of elevated cholesterol levels. A diet high in fat and cholesterol, hypothyroidism, poorly controlled diabetes, chronic liver disease, or the use of certain medications such as birth control hormones (the “pill”) and diuretics can contribute to elevated total cholesterol levels. Familial hypercholesterolemia is an inherited condition that leads to elevated cholesterol levels.
This self-test detects the cholesterol level in your blood and meets the requirements of the 98/79/EC guideline. After clinical research of 150 blood samples, 96.6% agreed with the results from the laboratory reference method.
