Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system and over time, it decreases the body’s ability to fight off infections. If left untreated, HIV can lead to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). There is no cure for HIV or AIDS, but with proper medical treatment, HIV can be controlled to a non-life-threatening condition. Early diagnosis and treatment can make the life expectancy for someone with HIV similar to that of someone without HIV.
Syphilis is a bacterial infection caused by Treponema pallidum (Tp) that can lead to sores on or around the genitals, anus, and/or mouth. Syphilis is a general disease that goes through different stages of infection: primary, secondary, tertiary, and latent. If left untreated, syphilis can lead to serious health problems, including heart disease and brain damage.
Both HIV and Syphilis can be transmitted through sexual contact or other means. Early detection and treatment can help prevent the progression of these infections.
The HIV & Syphilis Self-Test is an immunochromatographic, rapid in-vitro diagnostic test for the detection of antibodies against human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and type 2 (HIV-2), and Treponema pallidum. The test requires a small sample size of blood, which can be collected using a finger prick, and results can be read within minutes.
The package contains all the materials needed to perform the test, including the self-test kit, an instruction manual, a bottle of test fluid, a support card, a discreet waste bag, and a bandage.
The test is shipped discreetly and can be performed anonymously in the privacy of your own home. If the test result is positive for either HIV or Syphilis, it is recommended that you contact a doctor or healthcare professional as soon as possible.

Reliability HIV Test
The HIV self-test is CE certified. Laboratory tests showed that the HIV self-test correctly identified 99.6% (1757 out of 1764) of unique HIV-negative samples (known as the test’s characteristic). Of these samples, the test correctly detected 99.5% of samples with an HIV-1 infection and 100% of samples with an HIV-2 infection. Furthermore, during clinical evaluations in Kenya, 94.3% (33 out of 35) of HIV-positive samples were correctly identified by inexperienced self-test users. In terms of sensitivity and specificity, the reliability values of the HIV test are very high.
Reliability Syfilis Test
The Syfilis Self-Test has high reliability values in terms of sensitivity and specificity. Additionally, the test is CE certified.
The sensitivity of a medical test is the percentage of correct positive results among sick individuals.
Sensitivity = 97%
The specificity of a test is the percentage of correct negative test results among non-sick individuals.
Specificity = 97%
Window-phase HIV
After being exposed to HIV, it can take 6 to 12 weeks for the body to produce the antibodies that are detected by this test. This period is called the ‘window-phase’. If you take an HIV self-test during the window-phase, it is possible that you will receive a falsely negative test result. If you think you have been recently exposed to HIV, it is recommended that you re-test after the window-phase has passed.
However, it should be noted that sometimes it can take up to 3 months for HIV antibodies to be detectable in the blood. Therefore, it is recommended to retest for possible infection after 3 months.
Window-phase Syfilis
Incubation period for Syphilis: 4 weeks.
It is important that a medical test is performed after the incubation period has passed. The incubation period is the time between infection with a disease and when it can be detected in a test.
The incubation period for Syphilis is 4 weeks after the last unprotected sexual contact when the infection was acquired. If you have performed the test within 4 weeks, we recommend that you repeat the test when the incubation period has passed.
Result
When will you receive the results of the test?
The results can be read by yourself within a few minutes.
Positive test result?
If the test result is positive, we recommend that you contact your GP.
Negative test result?
If the test result is negative, this means that no Syphilis antibodies have been detected in the blood. It is important to keep in mind the incubation period.
