Why is it important to test for vitamin D?
Vitamin D is a hormone responsible for the absorption of calcium in our body. Almost all cells require vitamin D to function properly. A deficiency in vitamin D can lead to health problems such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, muscle weakness, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, complications during pregnancy, diabetes, depression, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, Alzheimer’s, obesity, and various types of cancer.
Therefore, measuring vitamin D levels is important for promoting health and preventing diseases. In the Netherlands, measuring vitamin D levels is recommended for at-risk groups such as older people and immigrants, especially those with dark skin who are exposed to little sunlight.
There are two forms of vitamin D in the body: vitamin D2 and vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is produced in the skin under the influence of sunlight or absorbed through animal food. Vitamin D2 is only absorbed through plant food. With The Tester’s vitamin D self-test, you can check your vitamin D level at home and detect possible deficiencies.
Reliability
The vitamin D self-test has high reliability values in terms of sensitivity and specificity. In addition, the test is CE-certified.
The sensitivity of a medical test is the percentage of correct positive results in sick people.
Sensitivity = 94%
The specificity of a medical test is the percentage of correct negative test results in non-sick people.
Specificity = 94%
